Dr. Robert M. Metcalfe, MA B ’68, will join the faculty at The University of Texas Cockrell School of Engineering beginning in January 2011.
Dr. Metcalfe will lead innovation initiatives and will also be the “fellow of the Clint W. Murchison Sr. Chair of Free Enterprise and professor of electrical and computer engineering.”

In a recent article from Space News, details of Lockheed Martin’s challenge to retain engineers responsible for “developing and testing three major military communications satellites” is detailed.

Joanne Maguire (MI A ’75), executive vice president of Lockheed Martin Space Systems (CO), said, “(officials are seeking ways) to engage and retain the best engineering talent as we make this transition from a heavy emphasis on development work to recurring production.”

The Georgia Alpha Chapter of Tau Beta Pi, at Georgia Tech, recently initiated 75 new members at the Georgian Terrace Hotel on November 2nd. The guest speaker for the event was the recently appointed Tech Provost, Dr. Rafael Bras (MA B ’72).
The chapter is also hosting an undergraduate research fair November 11th. The event “helps students discover research opportunities, involves (them in) person-to-person contact, and allows them to learn about professors leading research (projects).” Click here for more information
