On Wednesday, President Barack Obama awarded recipients of the 2009 National Medal of Science and the 2009 National Medal of Technology and Innovation with their awards.
In all ten laureates were awarded the Medal of Science and six were given the National Medal of Technology and Innovation. Steven J. Sasson, NY G ’72, received the technology medal for his invention of the digital camera. Read more here

ABET, Inc., the recognized accreditor for college and university programs in applied science, computing, engineering, and technology, has announced their 2010 Fellows.

Daniel J. Bradley (OK B ’83), Ph.D., was one of three Fellows in this year’s class. Dr. Bradley is currently president of Indiana State University, and “was recognized for exemplary leadership and stewardship of ABET’s finances spanning a decade and for more than two decades of dedicated commitment to ABET accreditation…”

Joseph G. Gavin Jr., MA B ’41, managed the Apollo Lunar Module team that put the first men on the Moon. He “worked on early jet aircraft engines during World War II, was former president and CEO of the Grumman Corporation, and became an adviser to the federal government on energy policy and space matters after his retirement.”
Gavin passed away this month at the age of 90.
