Albert Sacco Jr., MA E ’73, has been named the next dean of the Edward E. Whitacre Jr. College of Engineering at Texas Tech University, effective January 2011.

Dr. Sacco is currently a distinguished professor of engineering and the director of the Center for Advanced Microgravity Materials Processing at Northeastern University. He is a former NASA astronaut who was the payload specialist of shuttle mission STS-73 aboard Columbia.

WEPAN (Women in Engineering Program Advocates Network) and ENGAGE, an extension services project funded by the National Science Foundation, are hosting a series of professional development webinars.

On December 2, part two, Using Everyday Engineering Examples in the Classroom, will be held. Panelists include, Eann Patterson, Ph.D., Patricia Campbell, Ph.D., and Diane Matt.

The Worcester Telegram & Gazette is reporting on research related to muscle regeneration being done at Worcester Polytechnic Institute’s Bioengineering Institute.

The article details the research that has grown muscle cells in a wounded mouse. “The next step is to see whether the new muscle tissue actually functions.” Other questions and possible functions of the research are being considered.
