On Monday, Tau Beta Pi reported that two student members were among the 32 American recipients of 2011 Rhodes Scholarships.

Our apologies as we left out a third member, Varun Sivaram (CA G 2011). He is an engineering physics and international relations major at Stanford University.

Earlier this month, the Air Force Office of Scientific Research awarded grants to 43 scientists and engineers “who submitted winning research proposals through the Air Force’s Young Investigator Research Program.”

Recipients include: Dr. Jennifer Dionne, MO G ’03, assistant professor at Stanford University researching “colloidal metamaterials at optical frequencies;” Dr. Jack J. McNamara, MI G ’99, an assistant professor at The Ohio State University exploring “response prediction of compliant structures in hypersonic flow;” and Dr. Brian Pfleger, NY D ’00, an assistant professor at Iowa State University working on “metabolic engineering of alpha-olefin synthases.”

ABET has announced that Allen I. Ormsbee, Ph.D. (IL A ’46), is the 2010 recipient of the Linton E. Grinter Distinguished Service Award. Dr. Ormsbee has served ABET in varying capacities since 1970. Read more here
