Tara (Scott) Thornton, IL D ’99, was recently profiled in the “Where Are They Now” series in the Muscatine Journal.

Thonton is currently an engineering manager with MathWorks. Highlights of her profile include graduating high school at the age of 14, volunteering at an orphanage in Honduras, and receiving her mechanical engineering degree from Bradley University. Read the article

The University of Portland has announced that its school of engineering will be known as the Donald P. Shiley School of Engineering in recognition of the late Donald Shiley.

Dr. Zia Yamayee, P.E. (WA D ’72), is the dean of the Shiley School of Engineering and advisor to the Oregon Gamma Chapter of Tau Beta Pi. The New York Times recently reported on the development of hologram technology and the partnership of Dr. Peyghambarian and Dr. Keren Bergman, PA H ’88, working on ways to send holograms across the country via the Internet.

The article details developments of “close to real time” holograms and current uses of 3-D technology. Commercial use of holograms is still years away, but it has present applications in many sectors.
