Tara (Scott) Thornton, IL D ’99, was recently profiled in the “Where Are They Now” series in the Muscatine Journal.

The University of Portland has announced that its school of engineering will be known as the Donald P. Shiley School of Engineering in recognition of the late Donald Shiley.
Dr. Zia Yamayee, P.E. (WA D ’72), is the dean of the Shiley School of Engineering and advisor to the Oregon Gamma Chapter of Tau Beta Pi. Read the full press release for more information on the generous contributions made by the Shiley family in support of engineering at the University of Portland.

The New York Times recently reported on the development of hologram technology and the partnership of Dr. Peyghambarian and Dr. Keren Bergman, PA H ’88, working on ways to send holograms across the country via the Internet.
The article details developments of “close to real time” holograms and current uses of 3-D technology. Commercial use of holograms is still years away, but it has present applications in many sectors.
