Ray A. Rothrock, TX D ’77, is an alumnus of Texas A&M and a generous supporter of engineering, especially at his alma mater.

In 2009, he matched gifts for the Robert G. Cochran, Sr. Memorial Scholarship fund. Rothrock is currently a general partner with Venrock Associates. His support of engineering at A&M is profiled in this blog entry from the University.

STEM education is the topic of a recent article in InformationWeek. The article discusses the debate between the need for improving American students’ competencies in STEM and those that think the education deficit is overblown.

Statistics and viewpoints from both sides of the argument are highlighted. The author concludes that either way “education and training methods (in the United States) must be reevaluated and improved.”

Earlier this month the Missouri University of Science and Technology awarded ten honorary professional degrees during commencement.
