Retired electrical engineering professor at the University of Tennessee James C. Hung has died.

Hung, NY E ’57, taught engineering at UT from 1961 to 1999. “His most famous project was consulting with NASA to build navigation systems for the lunar rover that became commonly known as the “moon buggy” in the 1970s.”

The Los Angeles Times recently published a question and answer article with Google’s Marissa Mayer on how she “made it.”

In the article, Mayer discusses her decision to spurn a lucrative consulting opportunity to become Google’s first female engineer, and 20th employee, in 1999.

Mayer is currently Google Inc.’s champion of innovation and design and was recently promoted to Google’s operating committee. She also shares advice to other females interested in pursuing STEM careers.

The future of transporting American astronauts to the International Space Station will no longer be up to NASA.
