Johns Hopkins has announced that Dr. John C. Malone, chairman of Liberty Media Corp. (CT A ’63), has made a gift to the university’s Whiting School of Engineering for a new building.
Construction of the building, to be named Malone Hall, is set to begin in 2012. The Dean of the Whiting School Dr. Nicholas P. Jones (MD A ’80) said, “We are thrilled that John (Malone) shares our vision for what engineering and other disciplines can accomplish together.” Read the full announcement here for more information.

The University of California Berkeley profiled three engineering student-athletes and highlighted the time management needed to succeed at an intercollegiate sport while working toward an engineering degree.

Sati Hsu Houston, CA A 2011, was one of the three profiles. She is a senior majoring in industrial engineering and operations research at Cal. She played varsity softball as a catcher for two years, progressing from a walk-on to a starter.

The paper science and engineering major at Miami University (OH) will be phased out according to a recent article from the Middletown Journal.
The article, details that the major will be “replaced as a paper concentration for the chemical engineering major.” An associate professor in the department at Miami says that enrollment for the major is very small, but the demand for the major is huge and increasing.
