This week the Stevens Institute of Technology announced the seventh president of the university will be Dr. Nariman Farvardin. Read the press release

Dr. Farvardin was previously the Provost at the University of Maryland, College Park. He will begin his new role on July 1st, and take over for current interim president George Korfiatis, Ph. D. (NJ B ’82). At that time Dr. Korfiatis will resume his role as Provost and University Vice President at Stevens.

The Democrat and Chronicle profiled the Golisano Institute for Sustainability at Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) for its ground breaking on a new headquarters and research center.

Dr. Nabil Nasr, NY P ’78, is the founding director of the Institute and says that, “The key to sustainability in our mind is making systems smarter.” Read the full article for information on current projects and the history of the Golisano Institute.

With the recent one-year anniversary of the Haiti Earthquake, the University of Arizona updates research being done by an earthquake engineer and team to reduce carnage of future earthquakes.

The team led by UA professor Robert B. Fleishcman traveled to Haiti to examine the damage done to buildings in Port-Au-Prince. The team, which includes Karl Telleen (NJ D ’03) and other engineers from Rutherford & Chekene, is on the second phase “using computer models to predict seismic vulnerability.” Read the news article here
