Last week, The White House named 11 individuals and four organizations as recipients of the Presidential Awards for Excellence in Science, Mathematics, and Engineering Mentoring. Read the news release here

Douglass L. Henderson, AZ A ’78, is one of the recipients of this year’s award. Dr. Henderson is a professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Two of the organizations are at universities with Tau Beta Pi chapters, they are: the Center for Innovation in Engineering and Science Education at Stevens Institute of Technology (NJ), and Women in Science and Engineering Mentoring Initiatives, the Center for Research on Women and Gender at the University of Illinois-Chicago.

Crain’s Detroit Business has highlighted associate professor at the University of Michigan, Steven J. Skerlos (IL A ’94), for founding two local start-ups. While the companies do not have a lot in common, they are both a result of Dr. Skerlos’ engineering entrepreneurship.

Olsson Associates has announced the promotion of Andy Meyerkord, MO D ’06, to an associate engineer. Meyerkord recently passed the professional engineering exam to become a professional engineer.
He has been with Olsson since 2006 and is a member of the Southland Transportation team. Read the full press release
