Former president of GMI Engineering & Management Institute (1991-2005), responsible for leading the campus through its name change to Kettering University, James E.A. John, Ph.D. (MD B ’55), passed away in November 2010.

Popular Science and many other news outlets are reporting on the British engineer who constructed his own heart valve implant after being diagnosed with Marfan syndrome.
In two years, the engineer designed a new implant and became the first recipient of his creation. Right now 23 other implants have been performed and there are more wait-listed. Read the full article

This past weekend a new Lego czar was crowned at the Legoland Discovery Center’s Master Model Builder competition in Grapevine Mills, TX.
The win landed Cal Walsh, a University of Texas graduate with a degree in aerospace engineering, a full-time job as Lego czar at the Discovery Center. The timing was perfect, as Walsh had been looking for a job for almost a year.
