An article from the Detroit Free Press looks at the future of producing electric cars and the developing need to hire engineers capable of steering automakers to future success.

Dr. Steven O. Salley, MI E ’72, discusses the need to incorporate new engineering programs to meet the future needs of automakers. “The technology is changing so rapidly, sometimes the old courses don’t incorporate the new concepts,” said associate professor at Wayne State University Dr. Salley.

In the near future, automotive engineers with the necessary skills will be in high demand with GM planning to hire at least 1,000 this year.
