Today is Introduce A Girl to Engineering Day as part of Engineers Week 2011. The Chicago Tribune is reporting that Argonne National Laboratory will be hosting middle school girls in an effort to spark their interest in science and engineering.
According to the article, “students will spend Thursday working with a mentor and participating in hands-on activities. They will also tour the laboratory and attend interactive presentations.” Tau Beta Pi encourages you to participate in this national movement and tenth anniversary of Introduce A Girl to Engineering Day.

Wyoming University has released a press release announcing Robert W. Streeter, WY A 2011, as the Wyoming Engineering Society’s (WES) 2011 student of the year.
Streeter is a senior majoring in electrical and computer engineering, he is president of the Wyoming Alpha Chapter of Tau Beta Pi, and is a member of the Albany County Sheriff Search and Rescue team.

Testimony is being heard this month related to a possible tritium leak at the Vermont Yankee power plant in Vernon, VT.
Last week, the Vermont Senate Natural Resources and Energy Committee spoke to former nuclear engineer and current energy advisor and expert witness for the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Arnie Gundersen (NY G ’71). Gundersen suggested to the council that Vermont Yankee be shutdown to contain the link.
