Fourteen young engineers were selected as being “the next generation of engineers whose, innovation, leadership skills, and commitment to excellence are helping to better out world and inspire young people to consider a career in engineering.” Three from this year’s class are Tau Bates:

Laura Christianson, OK G ’05, agricultural engineering graduate student at Iowa State University

Piyush Sabharwall, Ph.D. (ID A ’09), nuclear engineer at Idaho National Laboratory

Juan Carlos Torres, MD G ’06, nuclear engineer and submarine officer at US Navy Nuclear Propulsion Program

The Maine Alpha Chapter of Tau Beta Pi is celebrating its 100th Anniversary on Saturday, April 16th, 2011. The chapter was founded on March 11, 1911.

Click here for information on the celebration activities and to register. The final banquet will feature two speakers: Dr. Larry A. Simonson, P.E., president of Tau Beta Pi, and Richard G. Higgins, ME A ’79, retired VP of Boeing Company.

Northrop Grumman has announced the recognition of several employees “for their outstanding contributions in 2010 by the San Fernando Valley, Calif.-based Engineers’ Council.” Two are Tau Bates, read the full press release:

Clayton Kau, PA D ’72, received the Jack Northrop Award for lifetime achievement. Kau is former VP Space and Defense Products at Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems.

Kevin J. Picklesimer, OH D ’79, received a Distinguished Engineering Achievement Award “for contributions to the development of GPS.” Picklesimer is a systems engineer at Navigation Systems Division.
