David N. Weidman, UT B ’78, and wife Rachel, have made a donation to Brigham Young University to fund a new center for global leadership.

Mr. Weidman is currently chairman and CEO of Celanese Corporation (Dallas, TX). He and his wife are alumni of BYU. The new Weidman Center for Global Leadership will be part of the Ira A. Fulton College of Engineering and Technology. Read the news release

The University of Chicago has announced the appointment of a founding director of the Institute of Molecular Engineering. Beginning July 1, Matthew Tirrell will lead the Institute as Pritzker Director. Read the full press release

The Molecular Institute was created in partnership with Argonne National Laboratory to “explore innovative technologies that address fundamental societal problems… in nanoscale manipulation… at a molecular scale.”

Lafayette College chemical engineering professor, James Ferri (Ph.D.), was recently profiled for his passion of teaching. “I really want my students to understand what they are talking about, which tends to force better thinking and in engineering,” said Dr. Ferri.

He has received several honors including the Morris K. Udall Scholarship, the NSF Graduate Research Fellowship, and the Tau Beta Pi engineering honor society fellowship. Click here to read the article
