Dr. Frances H. Arnold, NJ D ’79, and her lab’s work were recently profiled by the LA Times.
Dr. Arnold recently won the prestigious Draper Prize. Her laboratories at Caltech are focusing on “harnessing the evolutionary process to create new proteins and enzymes that have the potential to wean the world off fossil fuels.” Read the full article

The state Senate in Kansas this week announced plans to include $1 million in 2012 budget divided between the state’s three schools of engineering.
Kansas State University, the University of Kansas, and Wichita State University will have to match the funds with private contributions, but the initiative is aimed at producing more local engineers. Read more here
