Making a Difference: Future, Past, & Present

The Franklin W. Olin College of Engineering has announced that Vincent P. Manno, (NY A ’75), will become the provost and dean of faculty beginning July 1, 2011.

Dr. Manno is currently the associate provost and professor of mechanical engineering at Tufts University. At Olin, he will also serve as a professor of engineering and will be the next in line to lead the college in the absence of the president.

In February of this year, Melvin L. Griem, MD (RI A ’65), passed away at the age of 85. Tau Beta Pi would like to recognize the contributions made by Griem in the field of radiation oncology and at the University of Chicago.

He was a pioneer in establishing the use of radiation to treat cancer and “helped create the neutron therapy unit at the Univ. of Chicago in the 1970s.” Read the obituary from the University of Chicago Medical Center for more information about Griem

Effective immediately, Dr. Nigel N. Clark, WV A ’80, has been appointed as the associate vice president for academic planning at West Virginia University.

Currently, Dr. Clark is a professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering at WVU. He has been highly involved in the formation of West Virginia University’s 2020 Strategic Plan for the Future. Click here to read more
