The University of Arkansas at Little Rock has announced that Dr. Eric Sandgren, IN A ’73, will be the new dean of the Donaghey College of Engineering and Information Technology beginning July 1, 2011. Dr. Eric Sandgren

Most recently Dr. Sandgren was dean of the Howard R. Hughes College of Engineering at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Click here to read the press release

A group of engineering professors and a bioengineering student at the University of Maine have developed a new golf ball made from lobster shells.

The ball is biodegradable, made from ground lobster shells and a natural binding agent, and is functional compared to current golf balls. For more information, read the article

The University of Washington hosted this year’s UW Environmental Innovation Challenge and awarded the winning project to a team led by a mechanical engineering student and founder of Voltaic Drive Systems.

The Voltaic project consists of a prototype “electric drive system that can replace gasoline engines and be scaled to fit all vehicle sizes.” The team also gained experience on how to create a successful clean-technology business plan.
