Student Recognition: National Awards 2011

The Fannie and John Hertz Foundation supports young leaders in applied sciences and engineering by awarding financial support for five years of their graduate study.

This year 15 recipients were named 2011-12 Hertz Fellows. Of the 15, four are Tau Beta Pi members:

Jesse Engreitz (CA G 2009) – graduate student at Harvard-MIT Division of Health Sciences and Technology in quantitative biology.

Katie Mass (TX A 2011) – graduating senior in chemical engineering to do graduate work at MIT.

Kay E. Ousterhout (NJ D 2011) – computer science major at Princeton University.

Thomas Hale Segall-Shapiro (TX G 2010) – graduate student at University of California, Berkeley studying bioengineering.

This year 80 students have been selected as 2011 Udall Scholars, awarded by the Morris K. Udall and Stewart L. Udall Foundation. The scholarships are given to junior and senior level college students “committed to careers related to the environment, tribal public policy, or Native American health care.” Read more here

Tau Beta Pi is proud to announce that 27 student members have been awarded Goldwater Scholarship for 2011-12. Also, 16 student members received honorable mentions from the Goldwater Foundation.
