Making News, Part II: April 2011

Last week at Utah State University, a speaker from IEEE discussed the importance of engineering ethics.

In the article, an associate professor at USU, Scott Budge, Ph.D.(UT B ’84), detailed the dangerous consequences of unethical behavior. “When (an engineer) is greedy, by not using the rules set up for safety factors it can lead to serious problems,” said Dr. Budge. “So it’s crucial for students to learn about this.”

Seven civil engineers were recently inducted into the Missouri Science & Technology Academy of Civil Engineers. The group is honored for their contributions to the profession, leadership, and involvement with Missouri S&T. Read the news release

Four of the seven inductees are Tau Bates:

Kent W. Lynn, MO B ’85, – senior sales executive with IBM.

Michael J. McEvilly, MO B ’80, – senior VP of operation for Spitzer Industries, Inc.

Brad R. Parrish, MO B ’77, – president of Palmerton & Parrish Inc.

Charles M. Taylor, MO B ’82, – group manager of aviation services for Crawford, Murphy & Tilly Inc.
