The Beacon of the University of Portland profiled class valedictorian Sean M. Frederick, OR G 2011. Read the article

Frederick will give the University’s commencement speech on May 8th. He is receiving two degrees, in mechanical engineering and Spanish studies. He is a Fulbright Scholar and will be studying the engineering application of lasers at the University of Liverpool next year.

Faizan Naqvi, NJ G 2012, and his two brothers recently became the first triumvirate to have won Goldwater Scholarships. All three studied electrical engineering at NJIT and are members of Tau Beta Pi. Click here to read more

Faizan is also a 2011-12 TBP Scholar. His brother Mohammad, NJ G ’09, was a 2008-09 TBP Scholar and currently works for Lockheed Martin’s Space Systems Company. Salman, NJ G ’10, was a 2009-10 TBP Scholar and is a 2010-11 TBP Fellow, studying at Columbia University.

Donald A. Thomas, OH A ’77, is Director of the Hackerman Academy of Mathematics and Science at Towson University (MD). “The academy was founded in 2006 with a donation from Willard Hackerman, MD A ’38, president of the Whting-Turner Contracting Co.”

Part of Thomas’ work includes giving talks to K-12 students about STEM. He visits about 70 schools a year. Thomas is also a former NASA astronaut, who was part of four space shuttle flights.
