Dr. Edwin L. Thomas (MA Z ’69), professor and head of MIT’s Department of Materials Science & Engineering, will begin July 1 as the new dean of Rice University’s George R. Brown School of Engineering.

The Columbia Engineering Alumni Association has announced the winners of the 2011 Egleston Medal for Distinguished Engineering Achievement.

This year’s recipients will be honored on June 2. Both Egleston Medal winners are Tau Bates:

Dr. Michael J. Massimino (NY A ’84) – is a NASA astronaut, mission specialist, and a spacewalker, recognized for his contributions to the fields of astronautics and aeronautics.

Andrew J. Lovinger (NY A ’70) – Director of Polymers, the National Science Foundation, for pioneering work in furthering the understanding and performance of polymers.

Bucknell University has announced that eight Bison have been named to the Academic All-Patriot League Track & Field Teams. One is a Tau Beta Pi member:

Kristin Bretscher, PA E 2011, is majoring in chemical engineering, competes in the heptathlon, and earned the same accolades during the indoor track and field season. Click here for the article
