The 2011 Grand Challenges Scholars have been announced by the National Academy of Engineering (NAE). Fourteen students will be honored at graduation for this “combined curricular and extra-curricular program designed to prepare students to work on problems whose solutions could dramatically improve quality of life around the world.”
Six of the Scholars are Tau Bates from Duke University and Louisiana Tech: Anna Brown (NC G 2011), Jared Dunnmon (NC G 2011), Niru Maheswaranathan (NC G 2011), Eng Seng Ng (NC G 2011), Stephanie Parker (LA G 2011), and Louis Reis (LA G 2011). Read more here

Alan Kondo, TX Z 2011, was among three students recognized for their exceptional service at Lamar University’s 2011 Toast to Leadership Awards Program.
Kondo is majoring in chemical engineering, has volunteered with several local nonprofit organizations such as the Muscular Dystrophy Association, and after graduation he will be employed with ExxonMobil in Beaumont (TX). Click here for the news article

During last week’s Commencement ceremony at Vanderbilt University, ten top scholars received Founder’s Medals. Awarded since 1877, the medal is awarded to the top graduating student from each of Vanderbilt’s schools. See the full list
The Founder’s Medalist for the School of Engineering was Eppa Rixey, TN B 2011. Rixey graduated with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, is active in several honor societies on campus, and will work as an associate consultant for Bain & Company (TX) following graduation.
