Engineering News: On Campus

The University of Iowa and President Sally Mason have announced the appointment of Barry Butler as the executive president and provost of UI.

Dr. Butler has been serving as the interim provost since November. Previously, he was dean of the UI College of Engineering. His wife, Dr. Audrey Butler, is a chemical engineering lecturer at UI. Click here to read the full news release

The El Defensor Chieftain has published the New Mexico Institute of Mining & Technology Macey Scholars for 2011-12. This year four undergraduates were chosen based on “not only a high standard of academic achievement, but also a high level of involvement in the community.” Read the article

Two of the Scholars are Tau Beta Pi student members: Ahmed Hussien, NM G 2011, majoring in civil engineering; and Alyssa Rose, NM G 2012, a chemical engineering major and president of the NM Gamma Chapter of Tau Beta Pi.

In a Clemson University press release, three outstanding students were announced and will be recognized at this year’s Commencement ceremonies.

Two of the award winners are Tau Beta Pi student members: Jennifer C. Moffitt, SC A 2011, will receive the Norris medal for best all-around student. She will graduate with a degree in chemical engineering; and Jennifer A. Johnson, SC A 2011, will receive the Algernon Sydney Sullivan Award for “excellence in high ideals…” Johnson earned a degree in civil engineering, she is president of the SC Alpha Chapter of Tau Beta Pi, and a TBP Scholar and Fellow.
