Engineering R&D: Past, Present, & Future

Robert L. Gower, TN G ’64, plans to retire from United Memories at the end of the month. He has been president & CEO at United since 1997.

Previously, Gower spent 21 years working at Texas Instruments. He has had a storied career, including working for Jack Kilby (IL A ’47). “If you’re an engineer or a nerd, or a geek, this is heaven,” Gower said of his United offices. Click here to read the full article

A team of researchers from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute will be sending their experiment aboard the NASA Space Shuttle Atlantis for its final mission.

The Micro-2A experiment will test how dangerous bacteria grow in microgravity. Dr. Joel Plawsky, MI G ’79, is one of the research partners. The article, characterizes Dr. Plawsky as a “thin films expert.”
