A research team from the University of Minnesota, led by Dr. Richard D. James (RI A ’74), has successfully demonstrated the conversion of a new alloy into electricity.

This new method “could potentially be used to create environmentally friendly electricity from waste heat sources.” Click here to read the article for other possible uses of the new conversion method.

This weekend President Barack Obama took a tour of Carnegie Mellon University’s National Robotics Engineering Center. Later, President Obama’s speech called for “an all-hands-on-deck effort” to reinvigorate American manufacturing.

The final flight of NASA’s space shuttle program is scheduled for liftoff aboard Atlantis on July 8th.
