Researchers from Harvard Medical School and MIT have partnered together to “develop a new type of material that can be implanted into scarred vocal cords to restore their normal function.”

MIT’s Robert Langer, NY D ’70, led a team working to create the new synthetic material. Next up are clinical trials on humans next year. Read the news article

The Star-Gazette is reporting that a five-year philanthropic contribution has been made by Corning Inc. to the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Rutgers University.

The gift “will be used to support the development of a Corning Glass Laboratory, to hire a professor of glass engineering and science, and to establish a scholarship endowment.” Click here to read more

Popular Science recently profiled new control software from Draper Laboratory that will allow for more precise delivery of heavy pallets being dropped into difficult locations where supplies are needed.

The new algorithms make the pallet fly similar to a paraglider and should increase accuracy. Read the full article for more information
