The AP is reporting on hydrokinetics, or using flowing water to generate power without dams. The emerging technology is looking to breakthrough at sites along the powerful flowing Mississippi River.
Turbines would be placed at the bottom of the river to generate electricity. For now the technology is still in a development stage, but federal permits are being obtained for project sites between Kentucky and Louisiana. Click here, to read the full article

The Women in Engineering ProActive Network (WEPAN) recently published a Q&A with Nadya Fouad related to her recent report, Stemming the Tide: Why Women Leave Engineering.
Dr. Fouad is a distinguished professor of psychology studying women in STEM fields. Data from the study revealed discouraging information, including that 20% of engineering school graduates are female, yet women account for only 11% of practicing engineers.

The NASA Ames Research Center is unveiling a new book that will educate visually impaired readers on the lunar surface of the Earth’s moon.
“Getting a Feel for Lunar Craters” was created by a science professor and tactile engineer at NASA. The book will be presented to students from the California School for the Blind in Fremont (CA) this week. Read more here
