UCLA’s Henery Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science has announced a partnership with Syprosoft Engineering.
Under the leadership of Majid Sarrafzadeh, Ph.D. (IL A ’82), UCLA professor of computer science, Syprosoft “will assist with the development of innovative new products.” Click here to read the announcement

According to Technology Review, researchers at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign “have made high-quality three-dimensional photonic crystals and used them to make a highly efficient light-emitting diode (LED).”
This is the first time that three-dimensional photonic crystals have been successfully used. The current research is focused on making solar cells based on these structures. For more information on how these structures are being made, read the full article

The Big Sky Carbon Sequestration Partnership, which consists of Montana State University and three industrial partners, has received funding for an eight-year carbon storage project in north-central Montana.
The U.S. Department of Energy is providing funding along with private funding, “for the project, which seeks to demonstrate that large amounts of carbon dioxide can be safely stored underground for long periods of time.”
