On the Move: Engineer Profiles, July 2011

Arkema Inc. has announced the appointment of Dr. Richard Jenkins, TX D ’86, as the Global Group President of the Arkema Coating Resins business unit.

Most recently, Dr. Jenkins has been Global Group President at Arkema Emulsion Systems, and previously a general manager at UCAR Emulsion Systems & Monomers.

Heidi Lyman, WA A ’84, is a math and engineering teacher and math coordinator at South Seattle Community College. She worked at Boeing as a structural engineer for five years after graduating with BS and MS degrees in aerospace engineering.

Lyman has been selected to take an hour-plus, high G-force flight aboard a Blue Angel next week. Read the article from the West Seattle Herald for information on her flight, her winning essay, and her determination to overcome fear of the flight.

The Observer & Eccentric recently profiled Richard Fertell, MI H ’87, for his successful career and his roots from Livonia, MI. In the article, he discusses his fascination with mathematics and drawing at a young age, which he credits as “an integral part of my success as an engineer and scientist, and just plain fun.”

Fertell is the director of corporate quality and laboratory manager for Proteus Industries (CA). He is also coordinator of the central California and Nevada region for the National Conference of Standards Laboratories International (NCSLI).
