This week Kennebec Valley Community College celebrated the opening of the Solar Heating and Cooling Lab on the Fairfield (ME) campus. In an article from The Morning Sentinel (ME), the lab and Vaughan J. Woodruff, ME A ’96, were highlighted.
Woodruff is the solar thermal instructor at the community college, and the only full-time solar thermal instructor at any college in the New England region. He has high hopes for what the lab can do to boost the public perception of solar technology.

Clarkson University has awarded William J. Hurd, NY Q ’61, with the Golden Knight Award. As the most prestigious alumni award given, it recognizes service to Clarkson and outstanding career achievement.

Hurd retired from the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory (CA) after a 40-year career. He is also active with his wife in several philanthropic organizations. Read more here

The U.S. Department of Defense has awarded funding to two engineering researchers from the University at Buffalo.
One of the professors leads a group of researchers with a focus on “using swarms of robots to accomplish challenging operations.” The other professor’s work “involves research in light interaction with a novel class op optical media.” Read the press release
