Professor emeritus of mechanical engineering at Louisiana Tech University, Dr. Randall Barron (LA G ’58), and his son, Dr. Brian Barron lecturer in mathematics and statistics at Tech, have recently completed a college-level engineering textbook “that provides design tools that allow engineers to understand and alleviate potential problems involving thermal stresses.”

Popular Science has profiled the winning entry from a local science fair in Colorado. A high school sophomore built a wireless animatronic hand which “mimics the gloved hand’s finger movements in real time to pick up objects.”

The hand was 3D printed, is controlled by six servos, and hooked up to an Arduino open source platform. Learn more here
