Difference Makers: Past, Present, & Future

Nancy L. Sobczak passed away last week at the age of 60. She was an engineer and worked for several companies, including IBM, Johnson Controls, and GE. Read the obituary for information on her many contributions.

Sobczak, WI B ’70, earned a bachelor’s, master’s, and doctorate degrees from Marquette University. Robert F. Sobczak, WI B ’74, met his wife Nancy at Marquette.

Bal Seal Engineering, Inc. has named Rick E. Dawson, CA Q ’87, as the company’s chief executive officer and president.

Previously, Dawson was the president of Alloy Die Casting Company. In the late 1970s, he worked at Bal Seal as a quality engineer. Click here for the press release

Bayer CEO & President Gregory S. Babe, WV A ’80, was one of several to give a presentation related to the development of local STEM talent in the Kansas City area. Read the article

The presentation was part of fundraising efforts to support a nonprofit STEM initiative. Babe said that the animal health sector was a huge industry for the local economy but that growth would only continue “if we have a STEM workforce to drive these innovations.”
