The California Tau Chapter of Tau Beta Pi, at the University of California, Irvine, recently hosted a car wash to raise money for two outreach programs for the fall semester. Read more here

The fundraising event was focused at supporting the CA Tau Bike Project, to fix and repair bikes for the local community, and to help spread the word about engineering at local high schools, including the Achievement Institute of Scientific Studies (AISS) Foundation.

Two Tau Bates from the University of Michigan are the co-founders of Occipital, a technology start-up in Boulder, Colorado. Jeffrey Powers, MI G ’05, and Vikas Reddy, MI G ’05, have been working together since 2008 and debuted with RedLaser, an app that lets users scan barcodes and search the Internet for product prices. RedLaser has been downloaded more than two million times, was featured in an Apple commercial, and was recently sold to eBay. The pair has been able to expand their staff and continue working on new apps, including the 360 Panorama, which “lets you capture panoramas in seconds and share them as interactive 360 views.”
