The bachelor of science in nanosystems engineering at Louisiana Tech recently became “the nation’s first undergraduate degree program in the field of nanoengineering to receive accreditation from the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET.”

Established in 2005, the program focuses on functional systems at the molecular scale. Dean of the College of Engineering and Science Dr. Stan Napper (LA G ’80) discussed the benefits of becoming professional engineers and the development of a new program in cyber engineering.

Timothy D. Cook, AL A ’82, became CEO of Apple this month after Steve Jobs stepped down. Cook joined Apple in 1998 and most recently served as COO.

Last week, the University of Rochester opened the Integrated Nanosystems Center (URNano). Dr. Nicholas P. Bigelow, PA A ’81, is Director of URNano and says that “researchers will be working on science that has possible applications in everything from fuel cells to biomedical implants.” Read the article for more information
