On August 20th, IEEE hosted the 2011 IEEE Honors Ceremony and Sections Congress. The event took place in San Francisco, CA, and was hosted by IEEE President Moshe Kam, PA Z ’77, and IEEE President-Elect Gordon Day, IL A ’66.

There were 22 individual medals and recognitions presented. Here are the winners that are Tau Bates:
James M. Headrick (TX A ’39) was honored posthumously with the Dennis J. Picard Medal for Radar Technologies and Applications. Read the news release
Dr. James F. Gibbons (IL G ’53) received the Founders Medal as a leader of University-Industry Collaboration. Dr. Gibbons is a research professor at Stanford University. Read more
Bernard J. Lechner (NY A ’57) one of three to be awarded a Jun-ichi Nishizawa Medal for being forefathers of flat-panel display technology. Lechner is currently a consultant and “was the first to analyze the limitations of early liquid crystal cells” while at RCA Laboratories. Click here for the news release
Dr. Toby Berger (CT A ’62) was awarded the Richard W. Hamming Medal for being a pioneering information theorist. Dr. Berger is Professor Emeritus of Engineering at Cornell University. Read the full news release
