Honors & Recognition, September 2011

Two students from the University of Delaware are being recognized for outstanding achievements. Melissa St. Amand, MA Z ’07, will be presenting her biotechnology research at the upcoming annual meeting of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChe). Robert Haislip, DE A 2011, recently won honorable mention for the 2011 Eta Kappa Nu Outstanding Electrical and Computer Science Award. Haislip is a graduate student at UD studying circuit design. Read more here

The 2011 Warren Alpert Foundation Prize has been awarded to two bioengineering pioneers. Dr. Robert S. Langer, NY D ’70, is one of the researchers honored with this year’s prize.

According to the recipient announcement, Dr. Langer is the world’s most cited engineer and the youngest person to be elected to all three National Academies. He is being recognized for his “advancements in both drug delivery and tissue engineering.” Currently, Dr. Langer is a professor at MIT.

The Tau Beta Pi Minnesota Alpha Chapter, at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities, is co-hosting a fall blood drive with the local chapter of the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) and the School of Public Health.
