Shira Fishman, MA D 2001, has been named the 2011 D.C. Public Schools’ Teacher of the Year. Fishman is a math teacher at McKinley Technology High School.
She worked for several years as a mechanical engineer before joining the D.C. Teaching Fellows program.

Unseasonal weather did not affect the turnout at a recent Iowa’s first iExploreSTEM program event. The University of Iowa helped produce the program “to educate children about the importance of careers in STEM fields in a fun, interactive way.”
There were 36 different booths for participants to learn from ranging from DNA to anatomy, and robots.

Television personality and former Raytheon mechanical engineer, Deanne Bell, took time recently to visit with K-12 students at Lincoln Middle School (Syracuse, NY). Read the article
Bell has “been sharing her enthusiasm for engineering on television shows on PBS, DIY, Discovery and the National Geographic Channel” for the past five years. She encouraged students to use their imagination and to make it happen.
