World Micro, Inc., has announced the hiring of Michael A. Quarles, GA A ’94, as a applications engineer. Quarles was most recently a product architect/corporate applications engineer in Maxim Integrated Products Dallas Semiconductor’s microcontroller business unit.

Biomedical engineer Dr. Robert S. Langer, NY D ’70, is set to receive The Economist Innovation 2011 award for Bioscience, according to Astellas Pharma Eutrope Ltd.
A professor at MIT, Dr. Langer will be recognized as one of the “individuals who have changed the world we live in through their ideas.” For more information, click here

The creator of the first compact fluorescent light (CFL), Ed Hammer, is still working today on “thinking about new innovative ways to produce lumens for less.”
His idea for the CFL was completed in the 70s while working as a lighting engineer for GE, but it was not until the 90s that his idea was mass produced offering energy-efficient light bulbs. Read more about Hammer’s journey and his ideas that continue to develop today
