Mudd President Dr. Maria Klawe, CA W ’73, has been leading efforts to increase the presence of females in STEM fields. During her time at Mudd beginning in 2006, “the percentage of female computer science majors has more than tripled, to 42 percent.”

Gerald Glenn and his wife Candice have given a $5 million gift to Clemson University “to help train the next generation of engineers.” Gerald is a civil engineering graduate of Clemson.
He was chairman, president, and CEO of the Chicago Bridge & Iron Co. The couple’s oldest son is currently a freshmen in engineering at Clemson. Read the announcement

Classes may have already begun at the new computer-aided engineering instructional lab at Binghamton University, but the grand opening celebration happened this week.
The lab was supported with a grant from Siemens PLM Software. Click here to read more about the lab, which features software that “allows users to do real world mechanical analysis.”
