Yvonne C. Brill, SC G ’45, has received the National Medal of Technology and Innovation. The White House announced the five National Medal of Technology winners and the seven eminent researchers receiving the National Medal of Science. Read the press release

Brill was recognized “for innovation in rocket propulsion systems for geosynchronous and low earth orbit communication satellites, which greatly improved the effectiveness of space propulsion systems.” She is retired from RCA Astro Electronics.

This week, the University of Michigan has announced an investment into sustainability initiatives. As part of the changes, the University will add a solar panel field to its north campus, buy 37 hybrid vehicles, and shrink the amount of waste sent to landfills by 40 percent.

The Chronicle of Higher Education profiled Georgia Tech’s new Center for 21st Century Universities. Focused on change in higher education, the Center’s director is a former CTO of Hewlett-Packard.

According to the article, the idea of the Center is similar to having engineers solve complex problems. It is a laboratory for tackling the many tough issues facing higher education.
