Engineers: Past, Present, & Future

Wilson Greatbatch (NY N ’50), the inventor of the implantable cardiac pacemaker died earlier this week. Mr. Greatbatch referred to himself as a “humble tinkerer,” yet he was responsible for 230 inventions and received more than 150 patents.

The pacemaker was first used in humans in 1960, and the American Heart Association says “that more (than) half a million pacemakers are now implanted every year.” Read more from the Daily Mail obituary
