The University of Maryland has been named the overall winner of the 2011 U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon. The team’s solar home is named the WaterShed and beat out 18 other teams.
Second place went to Purdue University’s INHome and third place went to a team from New Zealand’s Victoria University. The Chronicle of Higher Education briefly profiled this year’s winners.

Texas A&M has announced that Dr. Margaret Katherine Banks has been appointed the chancellor for engineering for The Texas A&M University System and dean of the Dwight Look College of Engineering at Texas A&M University.
Currently, Dr. Banks is serving as Bowen Engineering Head for the School of Civil Engineering and is also a professor at Purdue University. She will begin her new position January 10, 2012. Read the announcement

Coombs worked in the aerospace industry for 31 years and is a 15-year co-owner of Pumphouse Brewery.
