A recent press release profiled Joanne M. Maguire, executive vice president of Lockheed Martin Space Systems Company and her induction into the National Academy of Engineering (NAE).
Maguire, MI A ’75, was recognized for her “individual and team leadership of successful space programs.” She has seen many important products developed at Lockheed, including a full range of remote sensing satellites, a strategic missile defense system, and human space flight systems.

Southwest Airlines has endowed a new scholarship for undergraduate engineering students at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. Read the news release
The first scholarship went to aerospace engineering senior, Gloria King. Executive vice president and chief academic officer at Embry-Riddle, Dr. Richard H. Heist (NY X ’67), said, “this strong new relationship is a smart move that gives Southwest a stake in our College of Engineering, where we can collaborate on applied research.”

The Society of Women Engineers has awarded Bechtel engineer Colleen Layman with the 2011 Emerging Leaders Award in Manufacturing and Constructions.
