The inventor of the “absolute temperature scale, called the MKS scale,” John C. Georgian, Ph.D., died in July of this year.

Tau Beta Pi has learned of the tragic death of Robert A. Howard, CA G 1984. Howard, his wife, and two young children were killed in a car accident earlier this year in British Columbia, Canada.

His family members have created a website with more information about Robert Howard, the builder, teacher, engineer, and father. Also, his sister in law Cynthia Stotts Howard, Ph.D. (CA G ’85), and her daughter have begun raising funds for the Roadway Safety Foundation in memory of Robert. Gordon Slemon, engineering professor and visionary, passed away in September of this year. He was 87.

Slemon was an engineering professor at the University of Toronto and served as dean of Applied Science and Engineering from 1979 to 1986. Read the obituary from The Globe and Mail for information on his earlier ideas on electric cars and magnetic trains.
