Virginia M. Rometty, IL G ’79, began her career at IBM in 1981 as a systems engineer. Earlier this year it was announced that Rometty will become the next CEO & president of the IBM Corporation beginning on January 2, 2012.

Most recently she was senior vice president and group executive, IBM sales, marketing and strategy. Read the article from The New York Times that highlights Rometty’s ascent and the significance of having a female corporate leader at IBM.

As part of the Brunel Lecture Series on Complex Systems, sponsored by MIT Engineering Systems Division, Dr. Richard K. Miller, CA L ’71, gave a talk this week titled “From the Ground Up: A Comprehensive Systems Approach to the Redesign of Engineering Education.”

A Business Insider article from CNN profiled Jeff Bezos, NJ D ’86, and the possibility that he will become the next Steve Jobs.

In the article, the similarities of how Bezos operates Amazon mirror Steve Jobs during his time at Apple. Bezos is the founder, president, CEO, and chairman of the board of Amazon.com. The company’s release of the Kindle Fire should make an impact in the tablet computer market.
