The USA Today announced that President Obama has named nine individuals and eight organizations to receive The Presidential Award for Excellence in Science, Mathematics, and Engineering Mentoring.

Among the recipients was Dr. Karen Panetta, MA D ’85, professor of electrical and computer engineering at Tufts University. She is also the Director of the Simulation Research Laboratory at Tufts. Read the article for the full list of those to be recognized.

The Ronald McDonald House Charities of Charlottesville, VA, recently received a visit from students of the Virginia Beta Chapter of Tau Beta Pi at Virginia Tech.

According to the news brief, the students “filled the kitchen with activity and good humor, and created quite a spread for our families. It was delicious!”

SAE International has announced the establsihment of a new award to honor outstanding women engineers. The Rodica Baranescu Award for Technical and Leadership Excellence in Commercial Vehicle Engineering will be awarded for the first time in 2012 during SAE’s Awards Ceremony.
