Christopher Tweed-Kent, NC G 2011, has been named to the CoSIDA Capital One Academic All-American Division I men’s soccer team.

He is a senior mechanical engineering major at Duke University. See the full list of male and female Academic All-Americans.

The American Society for Mechanical Engineers has awarded Marissa Nichole Rylander the 2012 Y.C. Fung Young Investigator Award.

Rylander is an associated professor appointed to the mechanical engineering department at Virginia Tech/ Wake Forest School of Biomedical Engineering Sciences. Her research is in “nanomedicine, cancer engineering, and tissue regeneration.” Read the press release

Bloomberg Businessweek recently profiled former aerospace engineer Dan Preston for his new business venture.

After selling his company that developed parachutes for the military, Preston became intrigued by “controlling the fermentation process” of the cacao harvest on his family’s property in the Dominican Republic. Now he runs Cacao Prieto, a chocolate and rum company. Read the article
