Recognizing Achievement: Past, Present, & Future

Late last year, J. Lynn Helms, MI G ’43, passed way at the age of 86. Helms was the head of the Federal Aviation Administration for President Reagan.

Helms was President and CEO of Piper Aircraft Corp. from 1974-1980. According to the obituary from The New York Times, he was recognized for exceptional service during the Korean War as a Navy test pilot.

The BEYA annual Black Engineer of the Year STEM Conference recognized several outstanding engineers. Christine S. Earle, P.E. (DC A ’03), was honored with a special recognition award. She is currently a civil engineer at Black & Veatch.

Co-director of the tournament, Roger Swanson, says (that the tournament) “accurately reflects what an engineer does.”
