The Engineering & Urology Society proudly displays on their Internet home page details of the life and accomplishments of Dr. George R. Nagamatsu, WA A ’27. Dr. Nagamatsu passed away in 2001 at the age of 97.

He was the first American-born of Japanese ancestry to be Chairman of Urology in a major medical school at New York Medical College. Dr. Nagamatsu was the founder of the Japanese Medical Society, founder of the Engineering & Urology Society, and a pioneer in the field of urology. The Tau Beta Pi District Program, a vital link between the international organization and individual chapters, has begun hosting 2012 district conferences. A total of 85 students and alumni participated in the District 2 conference in New York at Columbia University this past weekend. Twelve chapters had 30 representatives at the recent District 3 conference held at Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA.

The Houston Chronicle recently profiled a “pre-apprentice fast track program at Lone Star College aimed at helping Houston companies fill engineering technician assistant jobs.” The program is part of the College’s Energy & Manufacturing Institute.

Scott O. Nugent, MO A ’89, is an associate professor at Lone Star College and teaches students in engineering tech classes. Read more about the program
